Cause of Premature Ejaculation

The very first thing to recognize when determining the cause of Premature Ejaculation is that the majority of times it is a psychological problem rather than a physiological problem. The classic definition of Premature Ejaculation is when the male partner reaches climax during intercourse substantially faster than his female partner. If the his female partner takes 20 minutes to climax where-as he only takes 10 then effectively that is also considered a case of Premature Ejaculation even-though the time to climax for him may be relatively normal. It is important to recognize that the problem isn’t solely that of the man, rather it’s the couple’s problem.

The first and most important thing to recognize is that intercourse is split up into distinct stages is mentioned in my Homepage. Premature Ejaculation is characterized by the shortening of the plateau stage and the unwanted arrival of the orgasm stage prematurely. It must be noted that the length and duration of the stages are not pre-set and as such can be adjusted and modulated with the help of the ex therapist.

As an extension to the cause of premature ejaculation being a psychological problem, many factors can contribute to cause premature ejaculation. The most common psychological problem that leads to premature ejaculation is in the upbringing and how a child is brought up to understand and accept sex and masturbation. Many times, a unbalanced view of sex and masturbation is the root cause of most sexual disorders inclusive of premature ejaculation.

A very good example of a male having premature ejaculation problems propagating itself from a young age is when he fears being caught masturbating or pre-programs himself to reach the orgasm phase fast during intercourse so that he doesn’t risk excess exposure and thus humiliation. Premature ejaculation can also be caused by males being brought up to think that anything sexual is dirty thus finishing up as fast as possible seems to be best option. Most time, this pre-programming from a early stage can manifest itself into the premature ejaculation problem subconsciously.

Additionally, another less well know fact about premature ejaculation is that insecurity about the subject matter of even experiencing it before from a previous ordeal can actually be the cause of the premature ejaculation in the first place. It’s a bit of a chicken and egg ordeal. The insecurity of knowing that the problem may emerge may actually cause it. On the other extreme some males may have concerns about erectile dysfunction or have an inability to stay focused thus subconsciously train themselves to orgasm faster to avoid the issue.

In some circumstances premature ejaculation can also be caused by physiological problems although the instances reported are rare. These patients often suffer from hyper-excitability of the genitalia and increased levels of sex hormones which cause the premature ejaculation. These problems are often very treatable with certain types of numbing creams.

All in all the psychological problems are the main contributors to premature ejaculation and often need the help of a sex therapist to gain control of the problem. It has to be said that people seeking a solution to premature ejaculation often approach the wrong professional. Doctors should not be consulted for premature ejaculation problems. Always consult a sex therapist.
